« Split beats and crossed hands »
Etude for both hands: about split beats and crossed hands.
One of the challenges of this piece is to reach in a fast motion, and by crossing hands, notes very far apart from each other; but this difficulty, purely mechanical, must hardly exist for the student who has learned to overcome it during this work. Another, which requires a greater degree of skill, is to give a chunk of notes so divided the expression of the entire musical phrase, while these split beats lead to the expression of each note considered alone. It is therefore necessary that the student, when he will have to perform a piece of split beats, know how to quickly find the accurate phrasing, so that his character serves to define the expression he will have to give it.
